JetBrains has introduced a unified subscription for its AI tools — AI Assistant and coding agent Junie — with a free tier available to IDE license holders. The free plan includes unlimited code completion and access to local models, while paid plans offer extended usage quotas and cloud-based features. Junie has become a full-fledged coding assistant capable of handling complex tasks, and AI Assistant has received improved models (including OpenAI and Gemini), becoming smarter and more intuitive. User data remains fully under user control, with a focus on productivity, security, and transparency.
Gleam 1.10, the latest version of the type-safe language for the Erlang VM and JavaScript, features an enhanced compiler with support for reference search, improved project-wide renaming, and more precise string exhaustiveness analysis. The update also boosts JavaScript code generation speed, simplifies working with bit arrays, enhances error diagnostics, and increases reliability. New tools for exporting package data and improved container security with SBoM and SLSA support have been added.
JRuby 10, the latest implementation of Ruby on the JVM, significantly reduces startup times through technologies like AppCDS, CRaC, and Project Leyden. It adds support for Java 21 and full compatibility with Ruby 3.4. Invokedynamic optimization is now enabled by default, and internal and external APIs have been improved, making this the most important JRuby release to date.
OpenAI now requires developers to verify their identity to access its AI models, aiming to prevent misuse and protect its technology from being copied — particularly by the Chinese company DeepSeek. A Copyleaks study showed that 74% of DeepSeek-R1’s responses closely resemble OpenAI’s style, suggesting potential unauthorized training. This step is meant to safeguard intellectual property and prevent unlicensed use by competitors.
The United Arab Emirates plans to become the first country in the world to draft and update laws using artificial intelligence. A new agency — the Office of Regulatory Intelligence — has been established to oversee AI integration into the legislative process. AI is expected to speed up lawmaking by 70% and help assess the impact of legislation on citizens and the economy. Experts, however, warn of risks such as lack of transparency and potential unreliability, stressing the need for strong human oversight.
